The Weekend Theater kicks off its 25th anniversary season with the classic musical Annie, running June 23-July 16.

Matthew Mentgen directs the show with musical direction by Lori Isner and choreography by Adriana Napolitano. The show is based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan.

The story, set in the 1930s against the backdrop of the Great Depression, tells the story of an orphan child who finds optimism despite the harsh realities of human suffering.

The production, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, features a 30-plus member cast. In the title role of Annie is Madison Stolzer of Little Rock along with Drew Ellis as Oliver Warbucks; Claire Rhodes as Miss Hannigan; Amanda Gilmore as Grace; Justin Holzknecht as Rooster, Beth Ross as Lily; and Eric Harrison as Roosevelt. The cast of orphans include Leigh Johnston as Tessie, Mia Parker as July, Sophia Lehman as Pepper, Isabella Nguyen as Kate, Lauren Lasseigne as Molly, and Emily Pyron as Duffy. Rounding out the orphan ensemble is Madison Courage Fleck (also Understudy/Annie); Katy Belle Bailey, Paige Quast, Olivia Ward, Katheryn Morris, Dylynn Smith, Beatrice Robinson and Amber Thompson. Completing the ensemble are Byron Taylor as Bert Healy; Perry Bland as Drake; Samuel Rhee, Adriana Napolitano, Jacey Russell, Tapp Langley, Lauren Naeyaert, Libby A. Smith, Marie Lehman, Leslie Tate, Stefanie Johnston, Samuel Rhee and James West. 

The original production of ANNIE opened in 1977 at the Alvin Theatre and ran for 2,377 performances. It won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album and seven Tony Awards.
